EGYPT - GAZA
REFUGEE SUPPORT

The refugee crisis facing Gazans who fled the war into Egypt is characterized by legal limbo, severe financial hardship, and a lack of essential services. Denied formal refugee status and typically receiving only short-term tourist visas that often expire, the displaced Gazans lack the necessary legal residency permits to work formally, leaving them without a sustainable source of income and pushing many into precarious, low-paying informal jobs. This undocumented status also creates significant barriers to accessing basic public services; critically, their children are often unable to enroll in Egyptian public schools, forcing many families to rely on limited savings, charity, or uncertain, expensive private options. Trapped between a war-torn home they cannot return to and a host country that has not granted them the rights to legally rebuild their lives, these individuals face a dire humanitarian and existential struggle with very little organized international or national safety net.
